A Question of Courage picks up the story of Jess Maddocks where it left off in Magill's earlier novel A Question of Integrity. Jess is out of work and her friend Grace, who is a veterinarian, is living in Jess's house.

I find that in a lot of the lesbian fiction I've been reading recently, the characters are either airbrushed perfect heroines (maybe with some faked-up kind of flaw like "too successful") or else they go too far in the other direction - losers messing up their lives so much that I just stop caring and want the book to end soon because I can't take the whining for one more page. Luckily, Jess Maddocks is neither too perfect nor too flawed.
