Switching to solar

Bob Johnstone writes the story of solar activists, power company pushback, and the eventual passage of the Renewable Energy Act of 2000. This law launched the best solar incentive in the world- the Feed in Tariff.

The author has done a great job of research, interviewing many of the principles in the rise of solar. And in spite of the subtitle, Germany is only part of the solution, albeit the country with the most far-reaching approach.

What is unique about this book is that it is not so much about solar energy or photovoltaic based energy production but rather about the politics of energy production and how in Germany a few very smart and very politically savvy and very motivated pioneers initiated real change.Having been to Germany each year over the past decade and visiting the solar industry trade shows I knew that Germany was 10 years ahead of the USA and the gap is getting wider thanks to our bought politicians.
